What we are drawing

Today we’re going to draw possibly the cutest (and most Pokemon-looking) animal in the world, an Axolotl! This little guy should be a breeze if you follow the steps below. We’re using an iPad and Procreate, but the same rules apply to pencil and paper. Have fun!

How to draw an axolotl

Step 1

Over the next few steps, follow along as we lay down a light underdrawing. Follow along as best you can, but remember you can always erase and redo, thats the beauty of the light lines.

Ok we’ve got ourselves an axolotl! 🎉🎉🎉 You can erase that underdrawing and prepare to add some colour and life to this adorable little guy.

Step 20

First, block in the main colour.

Step 21

Now a lighter version of your main colour along the back.

Step 22

Add that highlight to the legs as well. Remember to consider where the light is coming from. In this case, directly above.

Step 25

The area around the tail is kind of translucent so we’re going to give it a bit of transparency so the background shines through.

Say hello to your completed Axolotl! We hope you were able to follow along and had a good time doing it.
