What we will draw

Hey everyone, let’s get straight into the tutorial. We’re gunna prove the fist is mightier than the sword… Or that the pen is weaker than the fist? I don’t know, we’re learning how to draw a fist, that’s all that matters. 😅

How to draw a fist

Step 1

Let start things off with a good ol’ circle. Keep your lines nice and light as this will be the underdrawing.

Step 2

From the right side go straight down from the circle. A little left of centre, draw an slightly curved line downwards.

First draw an arch just under the top of the circle, then 4 small circles that will eventually be the knuckles. ✊

Now we’re gunna rough out the thumb. On the left side, about half way down the circle, draw an elongated circle.

Now add a few more lines to start getting the shape of the top of our fist.

Another diagonal line on the right side that will eventually be the baby finger.

Now draw two smaller circles at the base of the palm.

We are adjusting our wrist lines here to get proportions correct.

Now we want to rough in where the fingers are going to go.

Ok, lets start darkening that underdrawing and defining our shapes.

We are gunna start with the thumb again and just block things out to get the shape of things correct.

Our knuckles are next. Right now we’re just blocking out the shape of the four knuckles and getting them in the right position.

Now a curved line from the 4th knuckle down to the wrist.

Now a line from the wrist which makes up the start of the arm where the fist attaches.

We also rough in the other side of the arm and wrist.

Now fill in the shape of the pointer finger.

Proceed to block in all the rough shapes for the 4 fingers.

Ok, now that the shape of our fist is complete, were going to start inking our outline. 😎

Add a couple of light spots on the palm.

Now remove those light spots on the fingers.

Pick a slightly darker colour than the fist and fill in areas that will be in shadow.
