Welcome, and thanks for checking out the how to draw shorts tutorial. Maybe you need a little inspiration for some characters you are drawing, or maybe you just like shorts, either way, follow the steps and you’ll be well on your way to being the “short pant” maestro.
Step 1
The next few steps will be mapping out our underdrawing. We did this drawing in Photoshop so don’t mind the weird dotted lines or other digital things you see, the exact same process applies with pencil and paper.

OK so the underdrawing is done, let trace our lines in a nice dark ink and get rid of that underdrawing.

Now let’s block in our main colours.

Take the main background colour and darken it a bit, use that for the shadows in folds of the cloth.Remember to consider where the light source is coming from.
Step 10
Now grab a lighter colour and fill in some lighter mid-tones, again considering where the light is coming from.

Now a few really light highlights to give a sense of realism.
Step 12
Now, onto the blue shorts. Lets add some highlights to the drawstring to give it some depth.
Step 13
Again, take your main background colour and darken it a bit to add some shadows there the shorts are folded.

A little darker shadows give depth and realism.

Finally, some light (not pure white) highlights to give the final rendering some realism.
