What we will be drawing
Welcome, and thanks for checking out the how to draw a hand holding something tutorial. Hands are always a little tricky but hopefully, this tutorial gives you some ideas on how to plan out your hands and draw them in different poses and angles.
Step 1
The next few steps will be mapping out our underdrawing. When drawing hands, the initial planning is very important. We need to make sure we get the proportions correct or our hands will look off. Take your time here and correct as you go.

We like to draw a little circle where there are joints. This helps visualize the distance between knuckles, wrists and all the hand parts before committing too much to the drawing.

Our underdrawing is pretty much complete, so we can start to use a bit darker lines for our hand.
